smartCASE Kick-off Meeting at RWTH Aachen University

In June 2026, representatives of the European Commission (DG DEFIS and HaDEA) and the smartCASE project partners met at RWTH Aachen University for the official kick-off of the project.

smartCASE focuses on the development of innovative satellite modules (satAPPs) that will contribute to the emergence of a new space economy in Europe and enable future in-space operations and services.

A particular highlight of the kick-off meeting was a visit to the CAVE at RWTH Aachen University, one of the world’s largest immersive virtual reality environments and a facility that has also been used for astronaut training. With a virtual view of the International Space Station (ISS), the CAVE provided a fitting setting for discussing the future of European in-space infrastructure and services.
